Man arrested for theft of fresh fruits and dried goods

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 47-year-old man for suspected involvement in at least six break-ins at a storage cold room located in Pasir Panjang.
Since Feb 2013, a number of break-ins were reported at the said location.
The padlocks to fridges were cut, and foodstuff was reported missing from the fridges. In total, more than $10,000 worth of fresh fruits and dried goods were stolen.
Following the reports, officers conducted extensive ground enquiries to solve the cases.
On Mar 12, 2013 at about 9.45 pm, police officers managed to trace the suspect and arrested him in the vicinity of Rowell Road.
A quantity of dried goods, believed to be stolen, was recovered from a shop in the vicinity of Race Course Road.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is believed to be involved in at least six similar break-ins.
The suspect will be charged in court for the offence of housebreaking and theft by night which is punishable with a jail term of up to 14 years.
