Man arrested for posing as police officer

SINGAPORE - The police arrested on Sunday a 32-year-old man who posed as a police officer for cheating by personation.
In a statement on Monday, the police said the man is believed to have identified himself as a police officer to deceive victims into thinking he could help extend their social visit passes.
A 29-year-old female victim made a police report on Sunday at about 1am about her encounter at Smith Street, where the suspect posed as a police officer with a card that resembled a police warrant card. The suspect told her that he could obtain an extension to her social visit pass for $1,050. She gave him $400 as a deposit and had agreed to settle the balance the next day.
After conducting ground checks to establish the suspect's identity, police officers arrested him in an operation at Smith Street on the same day at 11.15pm.
