Here is the press release from the police in full:

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man who is believed to have outraged the modesty of a female commuter at Clementi MRT Station.

On Oct 7 2013 at about 10.30 am, a 19-year-old victim reported to the police that she had been molested by an unknown man whilst she was exiting the Clementi MRT station. Following the report, officers from the Clementi Police Division immediately conducted investigations to establish the identity of the suspect. Their efforts paid off when they swiftly arrested the suspect at Clementi MRT Station on 8 October 2013 at about 7.45 am.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 9 October 2013 for an offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries a jail term up to 3 years, or fine and also be liable to caning, upon conviction.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Melvin Yong, commended the officers for their good investigative follow up which resulted in the swift arrest of the suspect.

DAC Yong advised those confronted to raise the alarm by shouting for help immediately to attract attention or seeking help from fellow passengers.

Victims should also take note of the culprit's physical description and call the police as soon as possible. He warned that criminals who prey on their victims on public transport systems will not be tolerated, and police will spare no efforts to ensure their apprehension.
