SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 47-year-old man for attempting to rob a goldsmith shop along Upper Pickering Street on Monday.
Police said the suspect entered the goldsmith shop at about 5pm, and demanded two female shop assistants to open the drawers containing an assortment of jewellery.
When they declined, the suspect poured an unknown liquid substance onto the display counters and threatened to burn the shop.
He subsequently tried opening a drawer but could not do so as it was locked.
Two more staff emerged from the office within the shop and shouted for help to alert passers-by.
The suspect escaped without taking anything from the shop.
Police obtained the man's image from CCTV footage and conducted extensive enquiries on the ground. They spotted the suspect at Park Crescent and arrested him. A shirt and a lighter were seized.
The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday for attempted robbery.
