Man arrested for allegedly deliberately insulting religion of a person

A man, who was arrested for his suspected involvement in deliberately insulting the religion of another person, is expected to be charged in court on March 17.

SINGAPORE – A 36-year-old man was arrested on March 15 for his suspected involvement in deliberately insulting the religion of another person.
The police were alerted to an incident in Tampines Street 82 at about 3.40pm that day, when a handwritten note bearing offensive remarks about Islam were found pasted outside a residential unit, said the police in a statement on March 17.
A piece of meat, believed to be pork, was found at the doorstep, the police added.
The man was arrested the same day, the police said.
He is expected to be charged in court on March 17.
If found guilty, he may be jailed for up to five years, fined, or both.
On Sept 27, 2025, a man was charged over his alleged involvement in the delivery of a parcel containing pork which was sent to a mosque.
Bill Tan Keng Hwee, then 61, was charged with deliberately intending to harm the racial feelings of a person, according to a Sept 27 Straits Times report.
He had allegedly mailed an envelope addressed to Masjid Al-Istiqamah in Serangoon, court documents indicated. The envelope contained a piece of pork and a note that read “halal BaBi chop”.
The police were alerted to the incident on Sept 24, and Tan was arrested the following day.
He was said to be involved in several similar cases at other mosques across the island.
In their March 17 statement, the police said they take a very serious view of acts that threaten Singapore’s racial and religious harmony.
They added: “Any person who makes remarks or acts in a manner which can cause ill will and hostility between different races or religious groups in Singapore will be dealt with firmly.”
