He spotted the couple making out in a Woodlands multi-storey carpark.

He then allegedly knocked on their car window and, claiming to be a police officer, threatened to charge the couple for engaging in sexual activity as the girl was only 16 and dressed in her school uniform.

He allegedly gave them two options: to go with him to the police station, or for the boyfriend to leave while he sent the girl home.

Afraid that the girl's parents would find out about their tryst, they chose the second option.

The man eventually drove the girl to Tampines Industrial Avenue 4 where he allegedly raped her in the back of his car.

Sivakumar Selvarajah, 41, is now on trial on four charges, including impersonating as a police officer and rape.

A 41-year-old aircraft technician, who raped a teenager in the backseat of his car in broad daylight, was on Friday jailed for 12 years and given 12 strokes of the cane.

Sivakumar Selvarajah was convicted in the High Court of raping the girl, but cleared of impersonating a police officer to get her alone with him in the vehicle.

He is appealing both conviction and sentence, and is out on bail which will be raised from $40,000 to $80,000 in light of his conviction.

Asking for leniency, his lawyer Foo Cheow Ming said Sivakumar, who was also convicted on two other charges, had not acted violently. But Justice Choo Han Teck granted prosecutors' request for a punishment of 12 years' jail and 12 strokes.
