man was seen holding something and running toward a crowd at HarbourFront Centre, causing people to flee.
Mothership understands it was a pair of chopsticks.
In response to queries from Mothership, police said that they received a call for assistance at Harbourfront Centre at about 9:55pm on Jan. 18.
A 45-year-old man was arrested for public nuisance and is also being investigated for voluntarily causing hurt, they said.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Argument escalated
A Mothership reader who witnessed the incident said the man had earlier gotten into a verbal dispute with another man, during which vulgarities were exchanged. The altercation drew the attention of nearby members of the public.
The reader said the man allegedly first attempted to attack the other individual by swinging his tote bag at him.
When this failed, he took chopsticks out of the bag and chased the other man toward the mall’s lobby.
Videos taken by the reader showed what appears to be the man holding the chopsticks as he runs toward a group of people.
In another video, the man can be seen screaming and pointing at someone off-camera.
The reader said that no one appeared to be injured, and auxiliary police arrived about 10 to 15 minutes after the incident.
Police were also alerted by staff from a nearby McDonald’s outlet.
By the time the man returned to retrieve his bag, police officers were already at the scene, the reader added.
