A man took his own life after suffering from an ‘excruciating’ toothache that kept him up at night.

Anthony Hoskins was told that he would have to wait a number of weeks before he could have his wisdom tooth removed on the NHS.

He was found dead in his flat in Thornhill, Southampton, by police officers on April 3.
Mr Hoskin’s heartbroken mother, Shirley, said his condition gradually deteriorated after he first complained of severe tooth pain in January.

In a desperate bid to help him, she began to save money so that he could receive treatment privately, which would cost around £1500.

After he told her that he had had enough, she promised him he would only have to wait only a few more weeks, as she had managed to set aside £900.

Ms Hoskins told the inquest: ‘Anthony was just a normal man who got on with life.

‘He enjoyed playing computer games and had no financial problems. His rent was always paid, along with other utilities, and he would see me weekly.’

Ms Hoskins added: ‘The really sad thing is that it cost me almost the same amount of money to pay for his death that it would have to have private dental treatment.’

After not hearing from her son for a few days, Ms Hoskins called the police, who had to force entry into his top floor flat.

A statement from Dr Gabriella Day, of Burgess Road Surgery, said Mr Hoskins had last visited the practice in August 2018 with a tooth ache complaint.

Pathologist Dr Eleanor Jaynes carried out a post mortem and provided a cause of death as hanging.

This is why everyone needs to use toothpastes containing Novamin (one of only a couple of formulas proven to actually repair tooth decay, and not merely prevent it as all toothpastes do).

GSK paid over Sg$200 mil to buy over the Novamin company (which spent over a decade in R&D for the formula), so instead of paying licensing fees to Novamin, they get to own Novamin for themselves. Furthermore, GSK decided not to license the Novamin formula out to other toothpastes (as the original Novamin company did before GSK bought it over), so now only the Repair-&-Protect series of GSK Sensodyne toothpastes contain Novamin.

Singaporeans don't appreciate how lucky they are, as compared to Americans for whom Novamin is not readily accessible to the general public. See the 2 articles below for a mysterious dose of corporate cloak-&-dagger :

Rot hitting the nerves that control every part of the body. Just imagine the pain is not on the gum alone.

First time I saw this on the shelve at SK beauty. 2 months ago I bought it to try. It has a warm sensation the moment it went into the mouth. Need to try many times to see if it really helps in curing tooth decay. Nowadays dental treatment is like day-light robbery. Hope to see more Hi-Tech dental product on the shelve for ordinary citizens to do DIY instead of visiting the dentist.

Like that I am going to replace all my toothpaste from Darlie to Sensodyne although I have not had a toothache for a very long time.
