SINGAPORE – A 21-year-old man was pronounced dead in the early hours of June 24 at a shopping mall in Novena, with preliminary investigations indicating no foul play was involved.
In response to queries, the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they responded to the incident at 101 Thomson Road just before 7am. The United Square mall is located at this address.
The man was found motionless near a taxi stand there and was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.
The police said they do not suspect that foul play was involved in this case of unnatural death, based on preliminary investigations, and that investigations are ongoing.
Images posted on social media show the mall’s drop-off point, off Khiang Guan Avenue, cordoned off, with at least four police cars and a crime scene investigation van at the scene. A tent is seen behind the electronic signboard near the gantry of the mall’s second-floor carpark.
The cordons had been removed when The Straits Times arrived at the mall at about 1.40pm.
Shop owner Kathy Teo said she was surprised to see several police vehicles and a blue tent at the entrance of the mall when she arrived for work at about 9am.
