Man, 20, investigated for making false police report

SINGAPORE - A 20-year-old man is currently being investigated for making a false robbery report.
On Nov 29 at 2.27am, the man reported to the police that he was robbed by two unknown assailants. He claimed that one of them had looped a rope around his neck from behind while the other removed $100 from his wallet before fleeing.
Officers from the Tanglin Division conducted extensive inquiries upon receiving the report.
In the course of investigation, many inconsistencies arose and the suspect eventually admitted that he had provided false information to the police.
Investigations against the man are ongoing.
Anyone convicted for giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant can face a jail term up to one year, or a fine up to $5,000, or both.
