SINGAPORE - A 20-year-old man was arrested for allegedly being involved in a series of loanshark harassment cases islandwide.

In a statement on Friday, the police said officers from their Clementi Division had been conducting patrols at Clementi West Street 2 at 2.05am on Friday, Oct 30 when they saw the man loitering around suspiciously.

He was found with loanshark paraphernalia, and subsequently arrested.

According to the police, the man is believed to have splashed paint on debtors' units and scrawled loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of several residential units at various locations, including Jurong East, Bedok, Woodlands, Sengkang and Tampines.

If found guilty, he faces a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, a jail term of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
