Malaysia’s birth rate has plummeted to its lowest level ever recorded, signaling a deepening demographic crisis. The Statistics Department (DOSM) has confirmed that live births in the first quarter of 2025 fell 11.5 percent compared to the same period last year. The decline is part of a broader trend that has been unfolding for years.

Key Findings:

• Male babies outnumbered female newborns, with 48,124 boys born compared to 45,376 girls. The sex ratio stood at 106 males for every 100 females.
• Selangor recorded the highest number of births at 18,254, while Labuan had the lowest at 278.
• Three babies were born to mothers aged 55 and above.
