Three young robbers caned in court

KUALA LUMPUR: Three young offenders, who pleaded guilty to an armed gang robbery under Section 395 of the Penal Code, underwent light caning in the presence of their family at the Ampang Sessions Court here today.

The trio were personal trainer Firman Shah Marzuki, 21, and mechanics Mohammad Talip Abd Kadir, 20, and Hazmirul Zulkafli, 19.

The youths appeared calm when they were caned twice each by an officer from the Kajang Prison before Judge Manira Mohd Nor and a prison doctor, who had earlier examined them and confirmed that they were fit for the punishment.

They were jointly charged with Mohd Ramdan Mohd Ali, 24, and another individual still at large with threatening Yeo Chai Nee, 32, with a knife and robbing her of a Sony digital camera, Toyota Vios car key, Nokia mobile phone and RM600 in cash at Jalan AG 1/4 Astana, Gombak here on May 17 2012.

Mohd Ramdan, who was not considered a young offender, was sentenced to four years prison and four strokes of the cane on Sept 12 by Manira.

Firman, Muhammad Talip and Hazmirul were however released on a good behaviour bond by the court with a RM5,000 deposit each and sentenced to the light caning.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nadiah Malek Fauzie, Firman was represented by lawyer Vasu Dev while lawyer Mohd Riza Zakaria appeared for Hazmirul and Muhammad Talip. -- BERNAMA
