AP’s Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid has lodged a police report against a TikTok user who accused her in a video of attempting to change Malaysia’s official religion and attacking Islamic institutions.
Syerleena said another social media user in the video’s comment section also claimed that her father is the leader of the Communist Party of Malaya.
The false claims resurfaced in a viral TikTok video that displayed a poster featuring Syerleena’s face alongside the captions:
andI swear to attack Islamic institutions, especially Jakim, for DAP,
I will fight to change Malaysia’s official religion to Christianity after the 14th general election.
Syerleena clarified that the poster, which previously went viral in 2018, had already led her to file a police report at that time.
In the statement, she reiterated that the DAP leadership remains committed to upholding the Federal Constitution, respecting the position of Islam, the Malay rulers and Bahasa Malaysia.
Therefore, the public, especially Muslims, need not fear DAP, as the party conducts its political activities based on constitutional principles and the laws of the country.
She also called for responsible use of social media and urged the police to take firm action against those spreading slanderous content.
