SERDANG - The Malay community of the 21st century should have the courage and confidence to succeed on their own, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said they should not depend on Government protection if they want to succeed.

"If we want to become a race that is dignified and respected by all, we must have the ability and skills to do so.

"We should not always be seeking protection from the Government, but we must have the bravery and confidence to succeed on our own.

"These are the characteristics of the 21st century Malay. Such Malays would achieve success not because of Government help, but because of their own power of knowledge, skills and their sharp minds," the Prime Minister said after launching the United Malay Economic Action Council (MTEM) here last night.

The council is a coalition of 63 Malay non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that promotes sustainable economic development for the Malay community.

Najib, who is also Umno president, said that the Malays should be willing to change and adapt to developments in the coming years.

"We must be more flexible and nimble compared with the past. Being too bureaucratic and rigid will only end up as a hurdle in adapting to new environments," he said.

Najib said the Malays should come up with new projects of their own so that the community could receive a fairer distribution of wealth.

"For example, in the MY Rapid Transit project, the Government had allocated 43 per cent of the project to the bumiputras.

"We do not take from others but we strive to develop new projects," he added.

He urged the NGOs to help the Government implement its projects under the New Economic Model and Economic Transformation Programme.

"These NGOs should act as a "bridge" between the Government and the people and any decision made by them should be deemed as fair," he said.

On MTEM, Najib said that the coalition's formation was historic as this was the first time so many Malay NGOs, which previously operated on their own, were now united under an umbrella body.

"This is a force that can bring change to the Malay community as well as the country as a whole," he said.

Najib added that it was now up to the Malay NGOs to step forward and carry out effective programmes in championing the interests of the community.

Thankfully, a number of them are losing their primitive beliefs. The muslims used to be at the forefront of scientific advancement and it was a muslim who developed the modern scientific method.

Precisely, this is something they refused to realize and until they do, they'll be what they are. Up north is a very naturally blessed nation, it's an ancient belief that's holding them back. A mind living in the past will never see the future.

Something new to me. I wasn't aware of any religion that drove science. I suppose some people rely on the horoscope.

The architect of the Malays still reliant on hand-outs and free gifts is Najib's father, the second PM. That mechanism still exist. More than 95% of contracts handed to Malays end up in Chinese hands. Najib's predecessor developed that. The Chinese and the Indians however are driven by money and not pride and will continue to kowtow to get contracts. All 3 deserve each other.

News to me again. I thought that muslims were followers of Islam and the latter was a religion. I sure am learning things today.
Nor was I. Who said anything about religion driving science?

LOL thats news to me too LOL If they got science then dressing up their fat women like Pacman ghosts also beat Paris fashion show LOL

Looks like we are learning new things everyday. I always had the impression that science always prospered under powerful societies, caliphates, kingdoms, empires who are rich and prepared to provide grants for experiments, recognition for scholars and create a climate of learning.

I could be wrong. Let's wait and watch Pakistan which is the first country in the world that was conceived solely on religion. After 60 years, they should be at the cutting edge of science. Explains why pilotless, sophisticated drones are seen there quite often.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you "The Scroobal's fallacy"

Premise 1: Singaporean Muslims tend to be better footballers than Singaporeans of other faiths

Premise 2: Muslims are followers of Islam

Conclusion: Islam drives footballing ability

For fuck's sake. I said Muslims used to be at the forefront of scientific advancement. I didn't say Islam and its tenets were at the forefront of scientific advancement. Adherents of religion do not = religion. Sinkies really are bereft of critical thinking

They were once in the forefront of scientific advancement because they were not too deeply brainwashed into the stupid book called koran. But a brain-dead idiot called Abu Hāmed Mohammad ibn Mohammad al-Ghazzālī destroyed all advancement developed in the Muslim world and returned it to stone age with strict interpretation of the stupid fairy tale book called koran. Watch the below 2 videos and you will have the full picture.

News to me again. I had the distinct impression that Muslims are not a race but followers of Islam, a religion. I am usually wrong. Maybe followers of Islam are Islamites. I learn again.

Say like that, Catholics are best at football. Protestants won World Cup 4 times (Germany and England). Catholics won it 14 times (Brazil, Italy, Uruguay, Argentina, Spain). Muslims and others suck 0 LOL

The statement below is lucid, logical and coherent. For years, I had assumed that "adherent" (love this term, more sophisticated than "followers") of a religion are with the religion. Day of enlightenment for me.

Bro, we are not smart but we are learning. I now know that Muslims were pursing science and the Catholics were pursuing football. Are you an adherent of logic? Logic has always eluded me. My life has been one of fallacy and bullshit. I wish I was an adherent of something. .

No one is saying that Catholic beliefs have a causal relationship with footballing ability. But one would be absolutely spot on in claiming that Catholics are the best at winning world cups.
