Zaki Asyraf also ordered the pop star to serve four months in jail if he failed to pay the fine and ordered him to remain under the supervision of the Anti-Drug Agency for three years. However, Zaki Asyraf allowed a stay order, provided Ameng filed an appeal Monday with an increased bail of RM5,000, (initial amount of RM3,500) with one surety.
Counsel Kamarulzaman Abdul Rahman who represented Ameng said his client would pay the fine and file an appeal. Zaki Asyraf said claims by the accused that there was a conspiracy hatched by his ex-wife - actress A. Aida to see his downfal after their bitter divorce in 2002 - was baseless and not relevant to the charges he faced.
On May 12, Ameng had pleaded not guilty to consuming drugs at the office of the Narcotics Investigations Division, Sentul police headquarters, at 3.45pm on April 2. He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or jail up to two years, if convicted and released on a RM3,500 bail.
