Makansutra Seetoh says Kay Lee duck recipe too expensive

He said he would use $400,000 to buy/learn the recipe from a duck master at GuangDong and use $1.6 million to open branches to sell the ducks..... only need $2 million....

Obviously he missed out the branding aspect of it.

If the duck is better than Kay Lee, no need any branding at all...... I wouldnt not have known Kay Lee if not for this incident, so Kay Lee's brand is worth nothing really....

i have eaten Kay Lee before. It is okay but not that great. Slightly above average.

Would I miss it if it is gone? not really as there a few nice one around too.
i did some checking and apparently this never been heard by me before brand is quite famous...........but many decades back among the older generations...........the name would be what Swee kee was for chicken rice but later years fame down by new entrants selling similar fare.

Seetoh was my brother's classmate in SJI.......not yaya as someone mentioned

sinkies are like the PRCs......not sophisticated when it comes to branding.......

spend enough to advertise and market new brand can liao....or pay some kalefares to fake a long queue

Can always set up a competing rival brand to Kay Lee.

Let's see... how about 'Gay Lee'?

Gay Lee Roast Meat Joint.

The wife of this Kay Lee set-up is a con-artist.

In the 80's she and her husband migrated to Sydney to set up her char siew restaurant, but was unsuccessful as she couldn't compete with the many HK char siew operators there.

They returned to S'pore leaving a huge debt behind them.
