The video footage was of a maid feeding a child but it had flashes of sudden violence that startled a district court on Tuesday. There was the scene of Myanmar maid Su Su Hlaing, 31, flinging a knife onto a sofa that was next to the four-year-old girl. She later pointed its 20cm blade at the frightened toddler.
Hlaing was jailed three months. She had pleaded guilty to committing criminal intimidation by alarming the child with the knife.
Another charge of slapping and pulling the hair of the toddler was taken into consideration by District Judge Siva Shanmugam when sentencing her.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Jason Chua told the court that the mother became suspicious when her four-year-old daughter would cry when she left for work in the morning, saying that she did not want the maid to feed her. She and her husband then bought a spy camera and installed it in the living room of their Punggol flat on Feb 9.
