The old Police Buildings (Lower and Upper Barracks) at Eu Tong Sen Street should NEVER be torn down.
I remember visiting the Upper Barracks as a kid in 1958. It was home to police families.
There were cannons mounted at the front facing the sea beyond. Still there or sold to karang-gunis??
Close to the Upper Barrack was the wooden Pearl Bank School. Between these two was an open field.
Old People's Park Market (Chin Choo Hong Pasat) was below.
The hills leading to the covered reservoir on Pearls Hill was dotted with beautiful black/white bungalows where senior police officers reside.
The reservoir is still there. The area is not developed. Why then was there a need to tear down those old bungalows?
The old Registry of Muslim Marriages occupied one such bungalow behind these magnificent and solid police building.
Who build such strong buildings in the first place? Was it convicts?. Singaporeans ought to know.
Please preserve it like the Hill Street Police Building?
