Magical Mask Change / Bian Lian

Have seen better performances. He is quite slow and the gaps between changing of masks were too long. I have seen consecutive changing which is much more impressive.

And he likes to show his ass to the audience. His performance is irritating.

Thanks for posting this. But the purist in me prefers the traditional bian lian performances rather than a modernised version.

Was trying to get a better video but I thought he was good.

No worries.. Bian lian is one of the most enchanting acts on stage. The mainland chinese channels like CCTV used to show very good performances especially on new years eve.

What adds to the mystique is their closely guarded trade secret. I remember Andy Lau wanted very much to learn this craft but none of the Sichuan masters were willing to impart this skill to "outsiders". Then ironically, not too long ago, I actually watched bian lian performed by a black woman. Not kidding. I guess everyone has a price....
