【星島日報報道】（星島日報報道）加拿大按美國的要求拘捕華為集團副董事長孟晚舟，疑似引發中方大報復。中國外交部昨日證實，加拿大前外交官康明凱及活躍於中朝之間的加拿大商人邁克爾，已被中國國安部門拘捕，兩人均從事危害中國國家安全的活動。據報道，兩人彼此認識，同於本月十日被捕，邁克爾曾協助前NBA球星洛文見到北韓領袖金正恩。加拿大外長表示，已就事件向中國提出詢問，並稱已向國民建議將中國列為「高度警告」旅遊國家。
孟晚舟被捕之後，中國副外長樂玉成召見加拿大駐華大使強烈抗議，敦促立即放人，「否則必將造成嚴重後果」。繼加拿大前駐華外交官、現任國際危機組織東北亞資深顧問康明凱（Michael Kovrig）證實被拘，又傳出另一加國公民邁克爾（Michael Spavor）在中國失聯。
加拿大外長方慧蘭周三在記者會證實，又有一名曾遭北京訊問的加拿大公民在華失聯，加國已針對此事向中國提出詢問。她還談及在外交部任職多年的康明凱，稱包括總理杜魯多和自己都與他相識，有切身感受。康明凱請了無薪假為NGO工作，目前依然是加拿大全球事務部職員。她說，任何加拿大人被捕，對政府來說都是非常重要、一定會持續關切的事。
外交部發言人陸慷昨日證實，中方有關部門已先後對康明凱和邁克爾依法採取強制措施，案件目前正在偵辦中。他說，從性質上說，兩人都從事了危害中國國家安全的活動，北京和遼寧省有關國家安全機關正在分別偵辦其案件，並已分別向加拿大方面通報有關情況，兩名加拿大公民的合法權益能夠得到保障。
在被問及康明凱和邁克爾被拘是否與孟晚舟在加拿大被捕有關時，陸慷表示，「中方是依法、依規採取行動」。遼寧省委主辦的「東北新聞網」報道，邁克爾本月十日被遼寧省丹東市國家安全局依法審查。換言之，他與康明凱同日被捕，據稱兩人彼此認識。
加拿大《環球郵報》透露，邁克爾與北韓領導人金正恩稔熟，他經營一家名為「長白山文化交流」的公司，該公司從事不少和北韓有關的事務，曾協助美國NBA球星洛文赴平壤和北韓領導人金正恩見面。不久前，該公司剛剛將一批西方遊客和冰球運動員送往北韓。消息人士透露，邁克爾預計周一前往南韓首爾，卻沒有現身。
