During his trip to the United States, he will also accept the Atlantic Council's Global Citizen Award on behalf of former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

SINGAPORE: Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam will be in the United States from Sep 20 to 29. In New York, he will attend the 69[SUP]th[/SUP] Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he will deliver Singapore’s statement at the General Debate.

He will also be attending the Atlantic Council 2014 Global Citizen Awards ceremony, where he will accept an award on behalf of former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

The Council's Global Citizen Awards honours global leaders who have made distinctive contributions to the strengthening of the transatlantic relationship. Mr Shanmugam will also speak at the launch of the Lee Kuan Yew Chair for Southeast Asia Studies at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC.

During this trip, he is slated to attend the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Governance Group and the Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. He will also officially open the new building of the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations, and the Consulate of Singapore in New York.

Old bastard too frail to show up himself. This time he spared the audience the irritation of a monologue of self boasts and praises. His dog Shamie has to quietly receive on his behalf.

Maybe after he die, we will build a statue and pee on it like 秦桧

This proves what a great man LKY is.

Even the Ang Mohs admire him tremendously.

SG GOVT PUMPS MONEY INTO US ORGANISATIONS THAT CONDUCT SURVEYS ON POLICIES

The New York Times recently reported that the Singapore government is one of the many foreign governments which have pumped undisclosed funds into several American Think Tanks responsible for research and information collection on policies.

While the actual figures which have been paid are not known, the New York Times said that the funds were in the "tens of millions".

These think tanks generally produce papers and host forums or briefings that are typically consistent with foreign government interests and there was some concern that the large amount of funding could compromise the integrity of the research.

Singapore has been identified as having contributed to Atlantic Council and Center for Strategic and International Studies, both of which do not disclose the amount of funds received.

The websites of these two think tanks explained what they do:

Atlantic Council:

The Atlantic Council promotes constructive leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the Atlantic Community's central role in meeting global challenges. The Council provides an essential forum for navigating the dramatic economic and political changes defining the twenty-first century by informing and galvanizing its uniquely influential network of global leaders. Through the papers we write, the ideas we generate, and the communities we build, the Council shapes policy choices and strategies to create a more secure and prosperous world.

CSIS:

For 50 years, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has developed practical solutions to the world’s greatest challenges. As we celebrate this milestone, CSIS scholars continue to provide strategic insights and bipartisan policy solutions to help decision makers chart a course toward a better world.

It is unknown just how much the Singapore government has put into these two think tanks and why no consultation or even a parliamentary mention was made about this spending using public, taxpayer money. How many other things has the Singapore Government put our public money into without the knowledge of citizens?
