just watched the new version of this chinese folklore starring jet li as FA HAI the monk but in the story was called the SORCERER.
in the original story, madam white snake was turned into her original snake form after drinking some "sulphurous wine". this scared the shit out of sui sian, her mortal husband. in order to save him, she seek out a magical lingzhi and fought it out with guardians of the magical herb. due to her love for her demised husband, the god of longevity gave her the lingzhi which saved her husband.
in this movie, everything was haywired. it was sui sian who climbed into JING SHAN temple of Fa Hai to steal a magical ginseng to save madam white snake who was accidentally injured by - of all the people - her own husband when she transformed back into her snake form and fought against the monk fa hai.
what that followed was mostly crappy. the flooding of jing shan temple, sui sian lost his memory after being possessed by demons that were suppressed by the magical ginseng. piangz!!!
there was no pregnant madam white snake who gave birth to a son during the showdown with fa hai as she and green snake flood the temple.
i m not sure whether this show is worth watching. and if i were to be the author still alive, i would surely sue the producer fo the film that rojak and chap-suey the whole traditional folklore tale of eduring love between a snake demon and a mortal.
