STOMPer Wu Yia Boh was shocked when he saw the amount to be refunded to him was only $0.01. Why so little and how was the one-cent derived, questions the STOMPer.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) had conducted a review earlier this year and found discrepancies in the distance fares charged for certain bus stops which had not been updated.

From now till June 17, 2011, commuters can check via the LTA website how much they will be refunded and how they can go about collecting this amount.

Said Wu Yia Boh in his email (Dec 20):

"How can? I was only refunded 1 cent out of the $300k in total refunds announced.

"How was this value derived?

"I was shocked to see I was only eligible for 1 cent of refund under the Bus Stop Distance Refund Scheme.

"Why so little?

"Where did the operator derive the 1 cent from?

"Consider the report which mentioned a substantial amount of $300,000 was collected from a result of overcharging -- 1 cent out of the $300k is so insignificant.

"If on average one affected commuter is entitled to a small amount of 1 to 50 cents, does it mean that the number of affected commuters is massively a lot more than the projected figure?"

i tot was for a period of 5 months that they have overcharged. Imagine if they have not made refund that simple, without knowing how much they have overcharged, take time off, take transport, and was told by the adminstrator, they have overcharged you for $0.01.

You cheat them, they fine you $0.01 x 100,00 , they cheat you...you get 0.01cts after the had collected the overcharge amount, earned interest on it......so smart these people.

So within 5 months ( 150 days ), LTA over charge by $300k. And base on the refund of 1 cent, then there must be more then 30 million trips affected?

As we understand, only a few routes are affected. So, do we have 30 million trips during this short period of time? If not, where does the remaining cost goes to? Investigative and Administrative charges?

Of course, knowing how un-accountable our civil service department works, do they have the comprehensive figures to show?

I was saying, if there are about 3.5 public transport commuters, then 150,000 for a "few segments" is not out of the question - if at least 5% of the routes run through those segments.
