Taipei, March 24 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau on Thursday issued a low temperature alert for 17 cities and counties around Taiwan, saying a low of around 10 degrees Celsius is expected from late Thursday night through early Saturday morning in open coastal areas in Yilan and regions north of Miaoli County, Kinmen and Matsu islands.
The alert was issued due to the arrival of a strong cold air mass, the bureau said.
From the early morning of March 27 to the same time of day on March 28, open coastal areas in Yilan and regions north of Tainan, Kinmen and Matsu islands are expected to see temperatures below 10 degrees in late night and early morning hours, the bureau said.
It advised the farming and aquaculture sectors to take precautionary measures against the cold, including those who grow crops on mountain slopes. People using gas water heaters should make sure of good ventilation in order to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, it added.
