The only F&B businesses that survive and thrive are those that sell no-frills, no-nonsense hawker staples at affordable prices.

Economy rice, chicken rice, char siew rice, fishball noodles, etc. Decent portions and at affordable prices.

Those selling instagram-worthy food are delusional. Nobody wants to eat your expensive croissant everyday. In fact, nobody wants to eat your expensive croissant at all. Same for those "new-gen hawker fare" where the servings are so small yet the price is expensive.

All never use brain one *LMAO*

The wave of closures among S'pore’s F&B establishments is staggering. Thousands of eateries are closing down every year, reaching a 20-year high. Established brands, Michelin-starred restaurants and hawkers are closing shop for good. Rental is massive and volatile, with many tenants reporting hikes of up to 49%. Landlords claim increased construction and maintenance overheads, often demand steep renewals or seek to rotate tenants to refresh their property. Rent hikes are fatal for eateries struggling with thin profit margins of only 3% - 8%.

this is why i expect tiong bahru cafe which sells $6.9 coffees and $6.9++ croissants to close underperforming stores soon. the one on upper yeast coast rd in siglap has hardly any customer in the morning at opening time. when it first opened years ago a long line of sexpats and sinkies would wait for open tables. now shake legs and swat flies with crickets chirping.

Wrong concept and theme, bad location and high prices. Doomed from the start.
