Except for the top level crew and specialist technical crew, the salaries have decreased significantly and the recruitment is along ethnic lines. Filipinos are the number one pick. The reason to recruit along ethnic lines besides cost is to keep the peace and avoid cultural conflicts. Something they learnt the hard way. For political correctness, they advertise like others.

For Marine technicals position, no issues.

It used to be very boring and many crewmen used to turn to drugs and alcohol, but these days the quality of life on board is much better.
