Pro-PAP fanpage spreads misinformation about GST cuts in Malaysia
The Online Citizen The Online Citizen

"Fabrication about The PAP", a pro-establishment Facebook fanpage is creating much confusion amongst Singaporeans and Malaysians after posting up two receipts from Malaysia, claiming that prices had gone up despite Goods and Services being cut to zero per cent by the new Malaysian Government.

The page wrote in its post, "Milo kosong increased by RM0.60 even before GST 0%."

The two receipts which were from Rathaa Curry House in Puchong Selangor, showing a 60 cents increase of the Milo drink from RM5.40 to RM6.00.

Although the wording on the Facebook post was correct to state that the increase was before GST is adjusted to flat zero, but the captions on the image give a different impression with the wordings, "Remove the GST, they said. Cost of living will lowered, they said."

A lazy social media user would just read the caption on the image, and assume the price difference is before the GST was lowered.

But as many netizens commented on the post, the date on which the price was increased is on 29 May, days before the reduction of GST on 1 June.

Zach Nawa wrote, "Blardy hell admin spread fake story! See the date on the receipt both still in May where without GST only start on 1st June. White dog barking lies! Desperate to sabo M'sia new public serving govt..a threat to your master is it?"

Vivien Tay wrote, "FYI, I’m in Malaysia since yesterday, all dinning receipts shows no gst and price stay the same! Love Malaysia bokeh!"

Amirul Adli wrote, "So uhh.... you are using an increase price of milo and prata as evidence that cost of living has increased? I guess if you are Pro-PAP, you will desperately use anything to support your agenda uh. Pathetic."

Tsai Kok Tiam sarcastically commented, "food court in Singapore also increased price without 9% gst."

Despite the comments in the Fanpage noting that the price increase was before the cutting of GST and that it is the issue with the restaurant and not the system, netizens, especially Singaporeans, shared the post without reservation and doubts.

It is a wonder why the fanpage did not make the same kind of posts when drinks increased price immediately after the announcement of water tax hikes in 2017 and Ministers such as Senior Minister of State for Finance and Law Indranee Rajah, had commented that the water tariff hike would have a very minimal impact on the price of coffee or tea.

PETALING JAYA: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) has given a five-day deadline to the La Bodega restaurant chain to officially explain a public complaint that it increased its price after the abolition of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

“An S21 notice has been issued to La Bodega to forward the necessary documents to KPDNKK’s office within five working days and to clearly explain the price differences as stated in the complaint,” it said in a statement on Facebook at Saturday (June 2).

According to KPDNKK, during its visit to La Bodega’s premises, the management said that the price on the receipt showed a 6% GST manual deduction, as the restaurant chain is still waiting for an overall system change from its headquarters.

“The operations manager of La Bodega said the price difference in the receipt was due to several issues in streamlining the pricing system by La Bodega’s headquarters.”

Further checks by the KPDNKK also found that the outlet is still using menus that advertise prices inclusive of the 6% GST.

“The outlet was advised to use a different menu which reflects 0% GST, and they are in the process of updating a new menu.”

KPDNKK said it has confiscated the menus and receipts for further checks and investigations.

The popular upscale restaurant chain in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, faced the wrath of social media after a receipt comparing a meal before and after the removal of GST went viral.

The receipt of a Big Breakfast meal at the La Bodega outlet in Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) showed a RM6.60 price increase between May 26 and June 1.

The receipt stated that the total cost for the Big Breakfast meal was RM51.70 on May 26 and RM58.30 on June 1, although there was no GST charge on the latter date.

Didn’t I tell people before? When GST implemented, prices all increased. But when gst become zero, not many reduced their prices. Even got restaurant that reduced temporary and then increased their prices back after adjusting their system to zero % GST. And mind you their receipt said zero % GST but their price is charged at pre-zero % GST.

I see only IKEA restaurant food pricing is transparent and honest to reduce their prices after GST cut to zero. Many eating places take advantage to profit more with no change in prices like the coffee shop that I mentioned in the other thead. Anyway now with the 6% SST, IKEA food prices are back to square one!

Lim noted that when the Barisan Nasional (BN) government implemented the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Najib did not hear the grumblings from the people who had to pay tax for every product.

If bringing Ikea to Malaysia Johor and they can sell the same price as in Singapore after conversion. This show one thing, IKEA product is the best. It is worth the while that is the reason why people flood Johor's IKea for quality stuff. Mind you, Malaysia has countless furniture factory in their industrial estate all over. Still they can grow their business.

As for IKEA, it make good money for them. Build credits, employ Malaysian people to work and i think Johor is grateful for that.

As for Singapore, for a MNC to start up. EDB has to throw money in the form of tax break, tax holiday , rental subsidies for business. Further more, they can hire their own shit skin people to work in Singapore. Why not set up business here in Singapore, after all it offer minimum hassle. I can have tax holidays, transfer of money in and out of Singapore without much question asked. I can employ my own people for the executive. Of course , i push for the company to be in Singapore.

Benefit who? You think people will take hsr down from KL to fuck your cheebye?

HSR for Singapore linking all the way ? Singapore is so wonderful that people need to take HSR all the way down to enjoy themselves. We have sea routes and air routes already nice and easy.

Building HSR is a death nail for all Local Singaporean. Why ? The foreigners will comes in and work with lower wages. They travel back in the evening and back to work in the morning. How about local Singaporean ? We are stuck with a depreciating HDB with our life saving sustaining the price with our lives. We can't stay down there cos Mahathir would not allow foreigners to hold long term resident visa.

How about Malaysian ? They work here and bring their money back and invest and grow their own wealth. Singapore got stuck with ever higher cost of living , with utility and ever increasing indirect tax.

You ccb Malaysian son of whore don’t pretend don’t know HSR benefit Malaysia the most. Your prostitute mother can come to Spore via HSR in the evening and prostitute herself and return by the morning at three times her usual pay in KL.
