HO CHI MINH CITY - Seeded players are always seen as tournament favourites.

But 17-year-old Yeo Jia Min has proven otherwise - the unheralded Singaporean has beaten the region's top seeds to win her first badminton title at the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Grand Prix.

As an unseeded player, she did not face the pressure of having to live up to her reputation.

Jia Min was born and bred here and this is itself worth more than ALL the medal won by sports mercenaries from China in the Olympics or the gold at the World Team Table Tennis Championships.

How many of these China mercenaries/medals are still physically in Singapore?

We keep buying foreign players, we shld also do like wise replace cabinet ministars wit FT import, cheaper and better.

She is only 17 and has already won a Grand Prix tournament. She reminds me of Thailand's home grown Rachanok Intanon.
