Local actress Evelyn Maria Ng has given up her citizenship so that she can withdraw her CPF savings.
According to Chinese daily Shin Min Daily News, the Moulmein High (2001) and Light Years (2004) actress has applied for Irish citizenship at the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority. Her mother is Irish.
She was quoted as saying, "I did not give up my citizenship because I don't like Singapore. Actually, I planned to further my studies in New York and needed some money. So I gave up my citizenship in order to withdraw my CPF savings."
The actress, in her 20s, starred in the locally-made independent short film, Hush, which was released last year with an R21 rating. She played a bespectacled, bookish-looking girl, who is secretly the mistress of her good friend's husband.
Speaking to the paper, Ng -- who changed her last name to Alexandria -- also said she is setting up a public relations company called "Alexandria and Alexander".
