Although Rain Chia Kuan Guan, 25, only caused $28 damage to the car, the district court viewed it as a dangerous act as a fire could have damaged other vehicles. For scribbling loanshark warnings outside a flat in Ang Mo Kio, Chia was further jailed a year and three months and ordered to be caned three times, extending his prison term to 3 1/2 years. In addition, he was fined a total of $2,800 and disqualified from driving for a year for traffic violations. Five other charges for harassing other debtors and fleeing the scene of a traffic accident were considered by the judge in sentencing. All the offences were committed in June.
