Aww.... what pretended modesty. LKY "wants" his house to be demolished? Really? The all time narcicissist who thinks he's the greatest really wants that? I seriously doubt so. Most likely he says that so that others will hopefully say that his house should be preserved. That's what he really wants, isn't it?

Now if he really is serious about demolishing his house, I have a suggestion. Why doesn't he do it NOW, and at his own expense too? Why wait till after he has checked into the next realm? So that there'll be much debate between those who want to execute his "wish" to have it demolished vs those who feel that his house is a living legend, and an extension of the "great" LKY?

I am not convinced with this guy's pretended modesty. There's nothing modest about his wish to have his house, which he knows the generation after him will try to preserve, when he says he wants it demolished. If at all, his act is actually exposing his hubris that he wants to be talked about, discussed about, even fought about, after he leaves this world.

So Mr Lee, how about proving you sincerely mean what you said, and demolish the house NOW? That way, after you leave, there truly won't be any legendary house for anyone to argue about. Dare to walk your talk?

I remember that scroobal had a better take on this matter: demolition of the house, which is his desire, would unlock a massive amount of money for his survivors. A developer would be able to build a tall and upscale condo development there as height limits in the area would be lifted after he is dead. The family would thus get at least $100mil. Maybe $200mil.

So, I would say, that commoners can ask all they like for history to be preserved but I would bank on the house being demolished.

I think he does not want hordes of hoi polloi tramping goggle eyed over what was his private cherished domain. These are his last days, give the man a break. I didnt agree with alot of what he did but he did put Singapore on the map in a way nobody else could.

He speaks in tongues. You need to translate what he says to vernacular. When LKY said he did not want statues of himself after he dies, what he means is he wants to see the statues of adolation before he dies. Lo and behold, the bronze bust (which takes hell a long time and lots of firepower to vandalize and destroy) is presented to him. New scholarship shit is made.

LKY had a team of very capable people no doubt. Besides the ministers you name there were his top civil servants like Pillay and Howe , there were capable people amongst his MPs who helped him manage the ground. Perhaps in the coming decade historians will sieve through the records and venture an assessment of his greatness or lack thereof. All the people named here will tell you that he was he most important of them all. Some, like TCC, may think he should have left the scene earlier ( something I agree with). It is leadership that drives things and LKY did not lack that at all. Look at the PAP today. Individually, our ministers may be more accomplished than the first generation but the we don't see that same greatness in the team. why ?
