‘Lee Kuan Yew’s office’ issues press release on his impending trip to China and Japan
May 23rd, 2011 | Author: Temasek Review
PAP de facto leader Lee Kuan Yew may have relinquished his unique ministerial portfolio of ‘Minister Mentor’, but it appears that he still has an ‘office’ and ‘press secretary’ under the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to a press release by a press secretary from ‘Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s office’, Mr Lee will be visiting Beijing from Sunday till May 24:
Mr Lee will meet PRC Vice-President Xi Jinping, Communist Party of China Central Committee Political Bureau Member Liu Yunshan, and other officials in Beijing before jetting off to Tokyo from May 24-27 to attend the 17th International Conference on “The Future of Asia” organised by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei).
It is not known if Singapore taxpayers will be paying for his overseas trip.
If Mr Lee no longer has any more ministerial portfolios, why is there still a ‘Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s office’ under the Prime Minister’s Office? Is the PMO paying the bills incurred by ‘Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s office’ including the salaries of his press secretary?
PM Lee should reveal if his father still has any official positions in his office. Being a MP only, taxpayers should not be paying for Lee Kuan Yew’s overseas expenses which should be coming from his own pockets.
Rules and protocols are meant to be observed, not bent and broken. The PMO is the highest political office in Singapore and we have the right to know how public monies are being spent.

- LKY is just an ordinary, common MP now. He is an ex-PM, nothing special.
- Why is he still being given all these perks of the office of the PM?
- Who is paying for all the security guards and hangers-on that trail him wherever he goes?
- Does he still have his own personal cook, driver and butler - and at whose expense?
- If he still uses his office at the Istana like he owns it, he should get out now because his position in the government does not entitle him to that privilege.
