Mr Low has replied to Mr Wu of Liane Zaobao. He said that he had not accused the MSM of directly engaging in smear tactics against opposition candidates, but rather, his opinion was that the MSM had allowed itself to be used by anonymous characters and other individuals as a platform to carry out attacks on the opposition.
Mr Low said that the MSM has given the opportunity to anonymous attackers to achieve their political objectives of smearing the opposition.
As long as those anonymous attackers remain in the shadows, they are behaving as cowards and hypocrites. If Singapore is to progress democratically, the MSM should not be aiding these characters.
If the MSM does not take the trouble to verify the authenticity of the information or establish the identity of the whistle-blower, it would only serve to mislead the readers and cause them to lose confidence in the MSM.
