Making women the scapegoat while ignoring the role that the PAP-government’s policies play in influencing our birthrates might strike many as hypocrisy. For a start, the way the PAP-government regards this issue has to change – progress can start with a re-thinking of the way it looks at gender issues as well as how the family unit is supported both by its member and by society. Only when comments such as those made by Mr Lee Kuan Yew are regarded as unacceptable and received by condemnation rather than “rapturous applause”, can we at least have some measure of progress towards a society that we would like to see.
