Alcohol will be forbidden in Little India area, with a 5km radius, except certain festivals & Deepavali, where liquor will be sold at designated station & each Indian is allow 1 can of 330ml of beer, their choice, upon presentation of ID & it will be recorded. They are free to drink shandy, Red Bull etc..

Customs Department will sell coupons which will be sold to dormitory operators like those in Jalan Pappan etc.. drink coupons, in which ONE worker is only allowed 1 can of beer (330ml) in "Little India"...known as COB..cost of beer!!

wonder if thats the reason why ive noticed new signs have gone up around lamp posts in the neighbourhood stating that this is a no drinking area within certain times etc

All this COI and big show of effort for something very simple to understand. Workers are lowly paid, overworked, unappreciated, isolated and away from home, feelings all pent up. Colleague was hit in an accident that sparked an outrage that led to release of frustrations. Mob behaviour followed. Soon simmered down after release of tensions. Sociologists at NUS should be able to say this and make it official, no need to spend unnecessary time and expense forming committee just to make it politically correct and restrict alcohol sales, the scapegoat.

They will have to resurrect "dou fu gai" & dedicate an entire street there for this & another street for "small stalls" gambling, plus drinking!!
