The concept is simple. Traditional stock exchanges are great for most trades from retail to hedge funds to high frequency.

But they're not ideal for the buy side, which deals in far larger blocks of shares.

If they want to jump into the market to buy or sell, they make a much bigger splash in the water.

And that often means more price volatility and money lost in the process.
