Back in March 2011, Inforcomm Development of Singapore has set rules making it mandatory for the local telcos to provide some features to help users manage their mobile bill on data roaming while they are overseas.
One of the requirements stipulated that the subscribers shall be able to deactivate their data roaming service before leaving Singapore and reinstate data services upon their return from abroad.
Another requirement stated that the telcos must allow the subscribers the option to suspend data roaming and limit the data-roaming charges to S$100 for a single billing cycle. The deadline by IDA for this requirement is 1st quarter of 2012 and all three local Telcos have met the requirement now.
If this $100 bill cap feature is used approproately, it may help some users prevent incidents similar to the "bill shock" incident that has been reported recently where a SingTel users is faced with exorbitantly high mobile bill.
The following are the procedure for Data Roaming S$100 Cap Service Activation for SingTel, M1 and StarHub respectively.
SingTel Data Roaming Auto Suspension Service Activation:
Option i: Dial *7626 (from Singapore)
Option ii: SMS "*7626" to 3333 (when overseas)
Option iii: Visit the web portal, IDEAS portal - www.ideas.singtel.com

M1 Data Roaming Cap Service Activation:
Option i : SMS "act datacap" to 1627
Option ii: Visit www.m1.com.sg. Refer to M1 site link below for detailed instructions.
Option iii: Go down M1 Shops, dealers, customers service centers to activate the (S$100 Data Roaming Cap) service.
Option iv: Call Customer Service Hotline 1627 (corporate customers to call 1622 or your account manager)

StarHub DataRoam Cap At S$100 Per Month Activation:
Option i: SMS "DataCapOn" to 6757
