[h=1]Lim Swee Say use fake figures, claim Government had cut down on foreign employment[/h]admin / 1 day ago
September 4, 2015

In his election speech yesterday (September 3) at East Coast GRC, PAP candidate Lim Swee Say said that the number of foreign professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) dropped from 45,000 to 13,000 last year.

This is not true. In December 2013, the total number of PMEs is 336,000 PMEs while December 2014 registered 349,000. The PAP government did not cut down on foreign employment but have rather increased it by 13,000 last year.

The PAP candidate for East Coast GRC also warned Singaporeans that if Singapore freeze the existing manpower number, Singapore small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will close down and many Singaporeans will lose jobs. Lim Swee Say claimed that SMEs will close down because they cannot survive without foreign workers.

“We say slow down (foreign manpower growth). They say slow down not good enough — complete freeze. Why didn’t we take that path? Many SMEs employ foreign workers. With this tightening, many SMEs are already feeling the pain. Can you imagine if we freeze the foreign worker (intake) completely, how many more SMEs would have died by now? Some may say, ‘So what? We have more than 100,000 SMEs. Die, die lor’. Let me tell you why… They account for 70 per cent of our workers. Tens of thousands of Singaporeans, their jobs will also die”
Lim Swee Say is a proponent for a 6.9 million population and has been working actively promoting the influx of foreigners as a source of cheap labour for businesses.

Left 5yrs, right 4yrs. Almost 10yrs, alot of damaged made. Many broken families due to casinos. Many Singaporeans sick due to stress. Many Singaporeans r treated unfairly by their mgr or supervisor who r foreigners. Some even worst, these mgrs or supervisors know nuts abt their jobs. Always gave wrong directions. At the end of the day who suffer? U shd know.

So What..Die Die lor! I hope all singaporeans have to look around your family and tell me none of ur family members will be afected if SME's are affected.

Yes. SME's running a business hoping for profits but they are also the core element for our country economy growth. To employees they belive in In Cash We Trust but to many employers its In Cash We Share.

They know that Singaporeans are gullible and will be fooled with their massaged statistics. Will this tradition persists? Or has the Singaporeans finally woken up and realise that they have been taken for a ride by the elite with misinterpreted figures and graphs that the ordinary folks have to accept whatever that is force down their throats.

Do a simple maths. Total number of people in singapore deduct total voter = total Singaporean. We will know the answer.

Unfortunately, most Singaporeans really do not understand that the sme really really need foreign workers.... Sigh.... There is no one policy to satisfy everyone, so even if any other party takes over as ruling party, they will have to face the same difficulties, albeit different problems. I really wished more Singaporeans can be more objective then just blindly commenting...

Actually Singaporeans are not concerned about foreign labour workers as these are jobs Singaporeans would not care to work. It's the ever increasing foreign PMEs that is a real concern. Our government set the minimum wage rate for foreign PMEs at S$4,500 and companies are using this to suppress Singapore PMEs wages. With another 13,000 means another 13,000 Singapore PMEs not being employed. I have spoken to so many taxi drivers who were ex professionals or managers but whose job have been taken by cheaper foreign PMEs.

Persis ShankerDavid Lau Got to agree with you there. As a grad with 15 years experience behind me, I find that more ang mohs get top positions without much expertise. The other worrying thing is the falsification of educational qualifications from most of these so-called 'foreign talents'. Hiring more PMEs from other countries doesn't allow Singaporeans and their careers to flourish.

Give them the money to support them in the fight.
Give them your time and energy to support them in the fight
