Life as a Singaporean sucks
November 18th, 2010 | Author: Contributions
Nowadays, Singapore citizenship is given out like candy to children, without any NS obligation whatsoever. And for what purpose? To boost PAP votes. All the reasons for bringing in FTs, PRs and new citizens given by our PAP govt and ministers are just a smokescreen to cover up the real reason.
Our grouse is NOT with the FTs, PRs or even the new citizens. Our grouse is with the PAP govt’s myopic, stop-gap, self-serving policies.
Because they have absolute power in Singapore, our PAP govt can make, break and bend any law, policy or rule any way they want. Because they are so intent on winning each election so as to maintain their vice-like grip on power, they have gotten carried away with themselves, and have created an oppressive and burdensome life for Singapore citizens today.
To all PRs:
Keep your PRs and your original citizenships. If you change to Singapore citizenship, you will be at a disadvantage in Singapore, you become 2nd class citizens like the natives. As a PR, you can still buy HDB flats and when you sell, in the near future at least, you may make a decent profit. And you can go back to your country as a rich person. In Singapore, your money does not go very far, everything is very expensive. And due to escalating govt taxes, fees and charges, COL goes up all the time. If you have lived here for even 1 or 2 years you would have already seen many price increases.
To all new citizens:
You are an opportunist, good for you. We know you are here only temporarily, to take advantage of the options available. This is natural human nature. We do not blame you. We blame our PAP govt for creating the policies which allows you to benefit from our rich developed country which our parents and grandparents had built up.
However, you need to be aware that our PAP govt does not think highly of its own citizens. Once you are a Singaporean, although you are still better off than native Singaporeans, the govt will by and large ignore you once they have used you.
They have only one use for you – they want you to vote PAP in the coming election. After that, you will be cast aside to fend for yourself. Which is where we native Singaporeans are today, we who have voted PAP all these years are now cast aside and suffering.
If you intend to stay long term, know that our PAP govt is very fond of chopping and changing their policies. Who knows, in future, they may require you and/or your sons to do NS. They may change other policies too, in order to milk as much as possible out of you. Which they have been doing to us native Singaporeans for a long, long time.
Perhaps the only advantage of Singapore citizenship is to use it as a springboard to settle in one of the truly 1st world countries. By all means, go! We wish you well!
We native Singaporeans would go to, if we could afford it. This country does not feel like home any more. But alas, most Singaporeans, due to PAP govt policies, have become just too poor to to be able to migrate. Those who can afford it have already migrated or are planning to do so. Such is the oppressive and bleak outlook of life as a Singaporean.
