Most people only get to soar through the skies as passengers on some commercial jet. Lieutenant (LTA) Graci Foo, however, was motivated to obtain her pilot's licence with the Singapore Youth Flying Club.
"I'm proud to say that I got my pilot's licence before my driver's licence!" said the older of two siblings, who has flown the Piper Warrior II at 10,000 feet in the air. "When I fly, I feel like I'm empowered to do whatever I want."
This love for flight was one of the reasons LTA Foo joined the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). On one of her defining moments in the Singapore Armed Forces so far, she cited being selected as the Parade 2nd-in-Command of the 83/11 Officer Cadet Course Commissioning Parade.
"It was a huge load on my shoulders because I had to lead 470 guys, but I had good and tough training and the Sergeant Majors made sure I knew my stuff," said LTA Foo, who is currently pursuing her undergraduate studies in International Relations at Durham University in the United Kingdom.
Formerly a Tactical Control Officer in the squadron that is home to the RSAF's I-Hawk Surface-to-Air Missile system, LTA Foo said her work experience has taught her to manage problems with composure.
"I am also fortunate to have great men under my charge and to have made great friends!"
