KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian did not violate Singapore’s territorial integrity during his visit to a Malaysian vessel on Jan 9.

Although Dr Mahathir admitted that Osman’s visit to the MV Pedoman off Johor Baru Port was made without the permission of the federal government, he said he is surprised by the hullaballoo which has sprung up over the incident.

“The reaction to (Osman’s trip) is quite severe… as if he were going to war. He was going to a ship in neutral waters,” the prime minister said to a question from the floor after delivering a talk at the Oxford Union which was broadcast live by Astro Awani from London, early today.

When an audience member insisted that Osman had trespassed into Singapore’s territorial waters, Dr Mahathir rebutted him.

“It is not Singapore waters either. It is international waters and the Menteri Besar can go into international waters without Singapore sending warships to chase him away,” he said.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry yesterday said it attempted to stop Osman from making the visit, which Singapore claimed resulted in Osman encroaching into its territory.

Osman has denied that he made an incursion into Singapore and insisted that his visit to the MV Pedoman was to watch Malaysia’s security teams doing their job.

Singapore made a protest over the incident through a diplomatic note to Wisma Putra dated Jan 11; and also sought the postponement of the 14th meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee for Iskandar Malaysia (JMCIM) which was scheduled for Jan 14.

So the ST reported fake news!!!????

If that is the case someone needs to be taken to task for spreading such falsehoods.

Q WHAT EXISTING LEGISLATION DOES SINGAPORE HAVE THAT CAN DEAL WITH FALSEHOODS?
A
Singapore has a number of laws that have been previously invoked to deal with falsehoods.

These are some examples:

•Defamation Act: This allows individuals or organisations who believe their reputation has been harmed by falsehoods to take action against the source and to seek redress or damages.

•Sedition Act: This covers a number of situations, including a tendency "to promote feelings of ill will and hostility between different races or classes of the population of Singapore".

•Telecommunications Act: Under this law, people who transmit a message known to be false or fabricated can be prosecuted.

During the recent Select Committee hearings on deliberate online falsehoods, some academics, content producers and civil society activists said that the current laws were sufficient to deal with the problem, while others said that the existing laws were limited in aspects such as speed, scope and adaptability.

SINGAPORE - Incidents like the recent incursion by Johor's Menteri Besar into Singapore's territorial waters are "provocative and escalatory", and contradict the officially stated policy of the Malaysian government, said Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen in Parliament on Tuesday (Jan 15).
"Tensions and real risks increased during this incident," he said, adding that Singapore's security agencies had detected the movement of Datuk Osman Sapian's entourage early, during which the number of Malaysian government vessels in Singapore's waters increased from two to five.
"Our Police Coast Guard and Republic of Singapore Navy vessels responded promptly to this provocation, as they had to," he said. "As a result, the total number of vessels in the area more than doubled. These provocations do nothing to help resolve disputes and indeed can precipitate incidents on the ground, which will do lasting harm to bilateral ties."

What is it you like most about the good doctor? His sense of humor? his pragmatism? the way he fucks the men in white?

His courtesy and humility as exemplified by the way he tolerates and puts up with a young little brainwashed Sinkie fucking brat who has no fucking manners and respect.

LKY would have shredded this little cocky scholar fuck to pieces if he had spoken with him in that disrespectful manner. His first born would have withdrawn his scholarship, brought him home and fuck him in the ass repeatedly with Ho Ching's broomstick and vacuum cleaner if the same thing happened.

He noted: "Ultimately we lead our individual countries but we are servants to our people, and we must make sure our people are not put into harm's way or that their livelihoods are not affected.
"At the same time, guarding our own rights upon international law and I think based on that, there are common views that both sides can arrive at that will meet our objectives. That's the best way to serve our people."

Singapore and Malaysia 'making headway' on airspace, maritime disputes: Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen

SINGAPORE - Singapore and Malaysia are "making headway" and communicating over the ongoing maritime and airspace disputes.
At the same time, Singapore's security agencies are "ever vigilant", said Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen.

Dr Ng told Channel News Asia on the sidelines of an active living event on Sunday (Jan 20): "I think we are making headway, as you know, the Minister for Transport and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the (Malaysian) officials are speaking.

"At the same time, our security agencies (the Singapore Armed Forces, the Home Team) are ever vigilant. We watch very carefully. We know what's going on. We're able to respond very quickly."

Dr Ng said it is now up to diplomats to arrive at a "constructive position", adding: "We'll leave it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but I think both sides have stated their views so let's let our diplomats and officials talk it through and arrive at a constructive position that respects both sides' rights, goes with international law as well as helps both sides prosper."

"At the same time, guarding our own rights upon international law and I think based on that, there are common views that both sides can arrive at that will meet our objectives. That's the best way to serve our people."
Dr Ng said the most important takeaway is that "we have avoided coming to blows".
He added: "It's always better to settle disagreements through peaceful talks, negotiations and discussions."
Officials from the two countries will meet in the coming weeks to discuss the ongoing disputes.
Singapore disputes Malaysia's claim that the new Instrument Landing System (ILS) and ILS Approach Procedures for Singapore's Seletar Airport will affect the development of the nearby Pasir Gudang town in Johor.
Both countries are also entangled in a maritime dispute following Malaysia's unilateral decision to extend Johor Bahru's port limits. The issue was escalated when Malaysian government vessels moved into Singapore waters.

PETALING JAYA - The Foreign Ministry has denied that its minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah gave Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian his "unofficial blessing" to visit the Johor Baru port in Malaysia's territorial waters.
The Ministry said that upon learning of the planned visit from a Malaysian enforcement agency on the morning of Jan 9, ministry officials, under the advice of Saifuddin, had immediately and repeatedly contacted Osman's office and conveyed a message not to proceed with the visit.

"The Ministry was concerned that such a visit would be counter-productive after the positive and constructive outcome of the bilateral meetings between the Foreign Minister and the Foreign Minister of Singapore just the day before.

"On Jan 8, both Ministers agreed to establish a working group that will study and discuss the legal and operational matters in order to de-escalate the situation on the ground, and to provide a basis for further discussions and negotiations," it said in a statement on Friday (Jan 18).

The ministry added that when Osman was contacted, he was already onboard a vessel and heading towards the Johor Baru port.
As a result, the ministry said that it received a Diplomatic Note from Singapore dated Jan 11 protesting Osman's actions, and consequently postponed the 14th meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee for Iskandar Malaysia (JMCIM), originally scheduled for Monday (Jan 14).
The Star reported that Singapore wanted the meeting postponed because it claimed that Osman had trespassed into Singapore waters on Jan 9 during a visit to Johor Baru port.
Osman has since insisted that he did not trespass into Singapore waters and that all he did was watch Malaysian security teams do their job.
"Regardless of these recent developments, the ministry wishes to concentrate its efforts on the working group and looks forward to hosting the first meeting at the end of this month, a testament of its commitment to strengthen bilateral relations with Singapore based on equality and mutual respect," said the statement.

Osman's boat ride came days after both countries agreed to measures to find mutual agreeable solutions and to de-escalate tensions over bilateral disputes.
On Jan 8, Malaysia and Singapore agreed for both sides to immediately and simultaneously suspend Malaysia's permanent restricted area over Pasir Gudang and Singapore's implementation of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) procedure for Seletar Airport.

Seems to me like the MB of Johore is extremely active and hogging the limelight as much as he can. He thinks political Johor belongs to him; ignoring the PH government.
Maybe he is trying to impress the Johor Sultan with his fearless devotion and dedication to the state; ignoring the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the PM.
