yup, he became co of 23sa in 1980. he was sent off in a farewell parade on an m71 155mm howitzer in 1984 as a bg. took up the post of political secretary to the minister of defence in september the same year.

Sorry, it has been so many years forgotten the numbers, 120..you were in TJ, hmmm "pinky" was there too remember? & Aty HQ was in TJ with Col Gil..before it moved to Kangaw.

According to my kopi kakis,he was protected by 1 or 2 bodyguards in the camp.Nobody
can touch him,not even the high ranking officers.
When he was the CO of an arty unit,he ordered the canteen
to supply chendol n ice kachiang to his officers n other ranks,to
show camaraderie or goodwill to his men !But critics said it is to
alleviate or mitigate his guilty conscience of enjoying too many
comforts n privileges.

I wonder whether there was any security guard for him and his brother, when they were officer cadets at SAFTI?

By the way, were his bodyguards dressed as SAF officers or SAF other ranks, or plain clothes?
Did his bodyguards also go with him to field exercises?
