[h=2]LHL is the Emperor with no clothes, Alvin Tan is the child who pointed this out ![/h]Summary
"The Emperor's New Clothes" (Danish: Kejserens nye Klæder) is a short tale by Hans Christian Andersen about two weavers(PAP cronies) who promise an Emperor(LHL) a new suit of clothes(Garden by the Bay and other worthless Mega Projects) that is invisible to those unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent. When the Emperor parades before his subjects in his new clothes, a child(Alvin) cries out, "But he isn't wearing anything at all!"
Plot
A vain Emperor(LHL) who cares for nothing hires two swindlers(MBT & Khaw) who promise him the finest, best suit of clothes(Garden by the Bay and other worthless Mega Projects) from a fabric invisible to anyone who is unfit for his position or "hopelessly stupid". The Emperor cannot see the clothing himself, but pretends that he can for fear of appearing unfit for his position; his ministers(PAP Cabinet) do the same. When the swindlers report that the suit is finished, they mime dressing him and the Emperor marches in procession before his subjects, who play along with the pretense, until a child(Alvin) in the crowd(Sinkees), too young to understand the desirability of keeping up the pretense, blurts out that the Emperor is wearing nothing at all and the cry is taken up by others. The Emperor cringes, suspecting the assertion is true, but continues the procession.
Modern Interpretation
"In Singapore, you have semi-competent yet greedy politicians(MBT & Khaw) in charge, making life a living hell for everyone(Sinkees) with price hikes, non-sensible immigration policies(FT Policies), and even more new laws to curb personal freedoms or scare people into voluntarily surrendering their freedoms (CPF withdrawal age, anyone?).”
