'Lewd remarks' teacher transferred to another school

MALACCA: A male teacher of an eminent primary school here, who purportedly uttered lewd remarks to his pupils on several occasions, has been transferred to another school within the city.
The Malacca Action Group for Parents in Education (Magpie) chairman Mak Chee Kin said that the teacher would assume his job at the another primary school after the Hari Raya holidays.
“A group of parents met me and they were happy that the teacher has been finally transferred,” he said in an interview yesterday.
He said that the affected parents had expressed their appreciation to the State Education, Higher Learning, Science and Technology and Green Technology and Innovation Com*mittee chairman Datuk Md Yunos Husin and The Star for their prompt action in addressing their predicament.
He said that since March, the parents had voiced out their displeasure over the teacher, who is in his 40s, but action was only taken after Md Yunos and the daily had highlighted the issue on July 18.
Following the allegations that the teacher had questioned the Primary One and Two male pupils on the colour of their private parts, the Malacca government had promised to take stern action against him.
On another matter, Mak said that Magpie would meet education officials to gather information on why the recent test on Trends in Inter*national Mathematic and Science Study (TIMSS) and Pro*gramme for International Student Assessment (PISA) were not conducted in both Bahasa Malaysia and English.
He said the test for first and second formers defeated the purpose in evaluating the students’ competitiveness in answering the question in English.
