BEST WAY TO ADDRESS GAMBLER'S $26M LOSS
Mind your own business

THE discussion over who should be responsible for the gambling losses in Saturday's report ('Man who lost $26m at casino heads seafood firm') and whether there is a role for the Government to intervene misses the point.

Personal responsibility is not the duty of the Government to police. Each of us should be responsible for our own livelihood and lifestyle.

The Government's job is to manage and grow the economy and develop the country. Is it my imagination or is it because of ramped up speculation over a looming general election? Whichever it is, there seems to be a litany of demands for government intervention into a myriad of issues, which has nothing much to do with the business of governing. Gratitude to the Government for keeping the country on an even keel seems to be in short supply. The reported $26 million loss by Mr Henry Quek, a scion of an apparently well-off seafood processing and trading company, has nothing to do with the Government or even Members of Parliament, some of whom have chosen to wade into the national gossip over the case.

Sure, there are many things we could say, like how the $26 million could have been used to help the poor, but ultimately, Mr Quek's loss - as well as the accompanying pickle he finds himself in - is between him and the casino.

Being a Genting shareholder... I agree with you, infact someone should be there to encourage him to play more.
