The vice chairman of the Bishan East Citizens Consultative Committee (CCC) has explained that the 'reservation' of tables at a coffeeshop was made by the owner, who wanted to be a hospitable host to a group of grassroots leaders on a walkabout.

Roland Ang, Vice Chairman of the CCC, gave a statement to STOMP after two STOMPers had wrote in about them being chased away from these tables which were 'booked".

Mr Ang wrote:

"On April 7th, advisers and grassroots members visited the wet market and various coffeeshops in Bishan East.

"We started at 8.30am and ended at about 11.30am.

"The owner was informed that the visit would end at his coffeeshop.

"Unknown to us, the coffeeshop owner reserved tables.

"We thank the owner for being hospitable but reservation of tables was not necessary or asked for.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused to other patrons."

It is the same as the political development in other (single party) countries.

Before established, they were down-to-earth, clicked with commoners.
Once secured their powerhouse, lots of opportunists and spoil beans joining the party and they become top of the world.
Even the people leader(s) could transform into great leader (dictator) if he stays on power for long.

I did not mean Lee Kong Chian was the similar kind, he was one of the best example of the good and bad leaders for next generation leaders to learn from.

Since great leap in the political leaders' benefits legally defined in early 2000, their moral leadership is in downward trend...
I would rather see the leaders taking bare minimum sum of tax payer money and be honest under the eye of people and free media, than earning million dollars from the public fund. It could filter out many opportunists...

Then, we will know if the leaders and the PAP are honest, and really serving people.

By now some of us heard about the Sunday morning incident at Blk 511 Bishan where PAP grassroots leaders blocked food patrons from occupying seats at the Hawker Centre to have their own gathering with their MP. I have no doubt that many were aghast how such an inappropriate conduct was allowed in the first place. We penalise and even suspended hawkers for reserving seats with Newton usually in the lime light. So why is this different.

Now here is a real incident that took place half a decade ago when culture and civility was not a high priority.

On May 1961, the Bukit Ho Swee fire destroyed 2,000 homes and made 16,000 people homeless. Goh Sin Tub, Senior Civil Servant and a well regarded Catholic and Literary figure was put in charge of the crisis centre. Each morning he would attend to a long queue of people making all sorts of requests. One morning as was his practice he would look at how long the queue is prior to meeting the people when he spotted a familiar figure in a crumpled shirt and pants. He immediately recognised him. He was in the queue and that gentleman was Singapore's richest's man, role model and leader of the largest dialect group as well as the captain of industry.

Goh went up to him and asked him why he was queuing and asked him to follow him. That gentleman said he did not feel right jumping the queue and had to be persuaded. It later turned out that Policemen on site too had recognised the gentleman and told him to go straight into the office but he chose to join the queue.

That gentleman sat in front of Goh and wrote out a 6 figure cheque to help the homeless.

Tell me why Lee Kong Chian felt that it was only right to queue while these fucking grassroots arseholes and their MP felt that they were above everyone else. Lee Kong Chian was not there to make a request but he was there to provide relief and it turned out to be the single donation for the Bukit Ho Swee Fire.

It is quite obvious that the single party political system creates many opportunists to apple-polish and step up the ladder.
If we have at least two strong parties to fight for leadership, there will be no scapegoat, no coffeeshop owner to behave like that.

Now under one umbrella, many opportunists act like that, and are trying to get on the good book.
