In modern world after the feudalism times there are not so many political leaders that past throne to their own sons already, there is at the most 20 of them and that isn't a lot if you compared against feudalism world where kings inherited from their fathers all the time.
In India the Indira Ghandi family had not seen direct installation of children to power. The later generation had not been installed by parents while parents are still alive. So are the cases in Pakistan. In Chinese world succession by son happened also only after the death of fathers.
Only in North Korean and recently the Kims are doing installation of successor son while father is alive. But Koreans are slow. Because Singaporeans are proudly the first in the world for this. Lee Kuan Yew installed his son more than 15 years ago as Minister and DPM then PM.
And again Lee Hsien Loong is another World First dictator son to reform against his father's regime.
Chinese Taiwanese Chiang Kai Shek's son Chiang Ching Kuo did liberalization and reform against his dictator father but only long after his father's passing.
In other words Lee Kuan Yew is the world first dictator to live watching his own son overturn his own dictatorial regime. He is alive and conscious so he have to watch it happening right before himself regardless how he feel about it. Many things strongly and irreversibly going against his will. He firmly insisted on many doctrines that are reversing before his passing.
He even said that he would rise from the graves to ensure that reversal wouldn't happen, besides insisting on the hold to power until his own death. Now he is unable to hold on to cabinet seat after the 2011 election.
He still have the time to re-write his books before his death. Now that he is retired he can have the time to face Hard Truths and write it out.
