The more they give, the more I worry.
The raising of the Enhanced Retirement Sum is a farce. It is increased from S$319.5k to S$426k, an increase of S$106.5k. However, the anticipated additional payout from 65 years old is only S$800 more (from S$2,530 to S$3,330) per month, or S$9.6k per year. Taking S$106.5k/S$9.6k = 11 years. So, in other words, the government is giving you 11 years to recover the additional S$106.5k if you opt to top up to the Enhanced Retirement Sum, this is not even considering compound interests earned during those 11 years. So, only if you will live beyond 76 years old, will you benefit from it, assuming that you start your payout at age 65 years. With Covid, cancer, high blood, etc, how many can truly live beyond 76 years old?
