MIDWAY through an hour-long dialogue with Law Minister K. Shanmugam on Sunday, 58-year-old Wee Kai Fatt stood up and gave voice to the claims of many coffeeshop pundits here.

The senior engineer complained about the foreigner-fuelled population boom, saying he was shocked when he heard there were five million people living in Singapore. This influx of foreigners, he added, has caused HDB home prices to skyrocket.

Taking it all in, Mr Shanmugam took pains to clarify what he said were several misconceptions in Mr Wee's statement.

The Law Minister's key message: It is unfair to cast foreigners as the villains driving up the prices of HDB flats.

Speaking at the end of his three-hour visit to Yew Tee constituency in Hong Kah GRC, he said: 'The first misconception is that somehow there are five million people and that's putting pressure on all of us. It doesn't.'

Of the five million, 3.2 million are citizens and roughly 500,000 are permanent residents (PRs). The remaining 1.3 million are here on temporary work permits and they 'impose no burden' on the public housing system, said Mr Shanmugam, who is also the Second Home Affairs Minister.

The summary of it all .

Is not to answer the question with another question .

It's the collaboration of business owners and the government

to set lax policies in turn undermine the value of local workers .

Fear not and use the power of your dollar to show your contempt .

1.5 million foreigners all of them stay in employers' arranged quarters? or are most of these 1.5 million workers staying in properties owned by sinkies?

Government owned quarters are built to house these 1.5 millions = needs to subsidise them by increasing new built HDB prices as the "quarters built are on rental basis and not outright sale. Being a non social, non charitable government the capital outlay for these new built to house the workers must be secured in hand before building it, thus raise the price of HDB first then think about building the quarters to house these FTs.

Flock mentality comes in for sinkies, let's charge them employers exorbitant rental to house these workers, one follows another follow and soon rental market returns shot up to the sky, private developers sees this opportunity & start building more & charging higher. Mind you, sand prices did not increase by 300% as claimed, cement prices did not shoot up three times, labour cost did not shoot up three times, machinery pricing did not shoot up three times. However, Ministers salary did shot up three times! But problems amassed three folds by just one stupid move to bring in these millions of FTs.

This bullshit about sinkies not wanting to work in less prestigious works, unionised the construction field with minimum salary scale & perks, forced the developers to implement better construction conditions with new machineries like in Europe, you can do away with plenty of menial labourers & maintain a 90% sinkies workforce in the construction site without problems and getting the profit margin to answer to the investors. First world country with third world mentality businessmen will only pull the quality of life down.

In the F&B field, do away with the cess charges & the service charge, stick to the GST. Seriously, never understand the service charge when service is so bad. Government never monitor this charge at all. Restaurateurs mark up on the items at least three folds and still charge you service charge, this service charge meant for workers salary or another way to increase profit margin? Everybody knows! Do workers get to split these 10% every month? Obviously not, they are just lucky if they do not get to have their salary deducted for every minute they are late for work due to heavy traffic jams even on mrt caused by these FTs. Best excuse i've always been using and nobody ever notice, "MRT got punctured tyres, need time to change the tyres" Too many so called elites around that they have no bloody idea what mrt is all about.

Problem still turn back to PAP, they are the root cause and they are the only cause of all problems that we have now!
